Designing My Life
I have definitely learned a lot of "real things" from taking this course and from Marty's life stories presented in class. All my life, I have been used to taking courses that force me to follow a specific formula: I learn everything there is to know, then take a final test at the end. Usually, in these type of structured classes I forget what I even learned unless it was a subject that I truly cared about. However, the way I300 is designed is completely different from any other course I have taken. It is designed to get students thinking in their own ways, and also work as a part of a team to not just get a good grade on projects, but to actually learn in the process. This course has truly taught me real things that I will have to use in my future professional life, such as working with a team or using protocols for a design such as usability testing. I have learned to take risks such as meeting with a graduate instructor for project help, asking someone to be my partner for an assignment, designing for a certain idea or concept I had never thought about, and so on. All in all, because of this class, I am able to take away all of the great things I learned and incorporate these things into my future life problems and decisions.
