Reflection
So far, I have learned quite a bit about "playing the whole game" of HCI design. It is now more clear to me why you are not designing for yourself, but for the users. The users' needs are the most critical part of creating a design. I also had no idea how much sketching was involved in designing a product, and didn't realize that those sketches could be used for usability testing. In addition, I didn't know what a persona was and that big corporations use these to better evaluate a product's effect on a user. Now I understand that a persona should represent a strategic design direction.
I think the first two things you mentioned (design for users and sketching) are two of the most important things we've learned in this class. It is absolutely necessary to keep the end users in mind at all times because they are the sole purpose a project is being carried out in the first place. At the same time, sketches should be drawn throughout the design process because it is difficult to conceptualize a small design, let alone a complex one. Sketches give the proper structure and tangibility to ideas that greatly help a designer stick to a solid, planned-out route to a successful application. Nice post!
ReplyDeleteAlisha, have you considered going into the HCI design field? What you say is all valid, and it seems like you're enjoying what you're learning. What you wrote about personas really stood out to me because randomly it helped me click as to why companies use personas. Great post!
