8 - Danny Town

A few things that I learned about HCI and playing the "whole game" is not everything is user-centered based (created based on the user) and I did not know any of the methods to use when trying to craft a good interface design. I have never thought about creating a sketch or an interactive sketch before making a coded design. I always thought that a good design was based on luck, like a rolling dice. First off, I have always wanted to create an IPhone application. I thought that it would just consist of me doing a lot of coding and trial and error with users before making a good design. Now that I know of these methods, I can save a lot of time once I get started on making my first design. I also learned that not everything is user-based. I cannot really think of any examples of this but I understood what Hoekman meant in his book. It made me think and really expand on my ideas of design creation (creating less clutter, mental model, implementation model). I have learned a lot since day one and I can't wait to bring my new obtained knowledge to my field to pursue my goals.

  1. I'm the same as you. In my mind I have created like a million iPhone applications that I thought would be genius. My freshman year my roommate and I even tried to get someone that actually knew how to create applications to help us with one that would keep high schoolers out of trouble for having drinking pictures on Facebook after several students from our hometown were kicked off teams for that issue. It has a lot of issues though such as you run into the problem that no one wants to support underaged children drinking. In this class, I've found design requires a lot more testing and thinking than just a product you think would work and sell.
