While "playing the whole game" in HCI this semester I have learned about how much detail and research goes into each design. I thought that most products were simply designed from brilliant ideas that a single person came up with and then created. I thought testing products was mostly just for pharmaceuticals or products that could potentially kill someone. While playing the whole game I have learned how difficult it is to test users through sketches. Having someone open an imaginary fridge that I have drawn is not an easy task and I commend those artists who pull off the tests successfully. I also had no clue what a persona was before this course. I didn't realize that big organizations actually made up characters to design for, and thought it was designed more based upon the ideas of those creating or paying for the products like Steve Jobs was doing with Apple. At the beginning of this course I was unable to sketch. I unfortunately am still unable to sketch do to lack of creativity, but hope to get better as the year goes on!
Hi Rachel!
ReplyDeleteSimilar to you, I thought that testing products was meant more for medical or food products. However, I300 has showed me that all products should be tested to make sure that the users' needs are satisfied. I also didn't have a clue what a person was and that big companies actually created these fictional characters to better evaluate their products. As with sketching, I am now more articulate when drawing a design, but overall my drawing ability is definitely far from perfect.
