8- Josh Avooske
Coming into this class I really had no idea what I was getting into. When reading the syllabus for the first time all I could think of was great we have to draw. Now I have submitted four different projects and have done different designs and drawings for each one. The most important thing I feel I have learned from this class is the whole design aspect. I struggled with designing something for a user because I was constantly putting in features that I thought were cool and things that I would like. The most important thing I feel I have learned from this class is how to apply your own thoughts to designs without designing for yourself but for a user. I have learned to take into account the user and a persona and design different things for what they would like instead of a user centered design. While this is focused more on drawing in class I feel that overall this aspect can be applied to any kind of job. I feel this is my greatest take away from playing the whole game as I have taught myself to take a step back from situations and try to look at the situation through a different persons point of view. This has helped me to better apply a fix or an answer to the problem as a whole.

I agree with the thoughts in this post because I also had these thoughts running through my mind in the ginning of the course. When designing something, it is easy for the designer to think of aspects that they would enjoy in the design and include those aspects in their design. However, the designer must think of the usersand realize the features that these users would enjoy in the design of a specific product. This was a difficult thing for me to realize also, which I why I can relate to this post. I am not designing something specifically for only myself, and therefore just because I would like a certain feature in a product, doesn't mean another person would like that same feature. There3fore, I have to think of all users as I design in order to make the best design possible. Doing research, and putting the whole game of design together enables me to be able to put the pieces together in order to make a great design. I 100% agree with this post in the sense of as a designer, youu need to take a step back in a sense and look at the whole game of design in order to please the users of the designed product and understand what they truly want. Doing this will allow myself as a designer to improve my design and better meet the standards and expectations of the users.
ReplyDeleteI also agree with this post and what Josh has taken away so far. I too did not realize what I was getting into, there are just so many dynamic aspects that go into making a good design. I did not realize that the whole process can take years, and in the end the product still might not be perfect.
