DoubleMaps is an application that tells a user where certain route buses currently are. This one, specifically, tells the bus route of the IU Bloomington campus.
I believe the motivation for this website is a desire to make students happier using the bus system. Students have always complained about bus schedules never being on time, but it is not an easy fix that can be solved due to several variables (how heavy traffic is, if there's an accident, etc). This new type of technology was put into the Bloomington bus routes in order to let people know exactly where the buses are. Instead of relying on an unreliable schedule, this application lets users know when the bus will accurately arrive.
I believe that the ones who've brought this technology in knew that students and workers don't have time to waste in waiting for the bus. They wanted to reduce the unknown waiting time for the bus and make the bus passengers happier about using their transportation. Their purpose is to make passengers happy to use their buses.
