I think the best way to figure the feature to drop is by the Unnecessary Test. I think that through this test you can figure out what to drop and keep the bare essentials to keep it useful. The feature I would drop would have to be the recommended channels that is on the side of the homepage. I personally have never used this feature. I feel that most users probably go through the homepage and most likely either search for a specific video or look at the recommended ones. I think Youtube would still function greatly without the recommended channels and could even fit in more popular videos if this feature is removed. Youtube is known for its videos so why not add more popular videos in on the homepage and take out a feature that probably doesn't get used as much as it should?
