5 - William McQuade

As I think about my Project 3 (YouTube) and do more textbook reading, I thought of more possible ways to change YouTube. The Let Them Speak technique would be an excellent technique to use in order to determine what feature to drop from YouTube. Frequent users of the YouTube website know the website the best, and therefore would have strong opinions on what features they could go without on the website. I have discussed YouTube with my friends because of Project 3 and have put much more thought into the design of the website myself also. The feature of YouTube that I would be willing to drop would be some of the categorization features such as: gaming, movies, etc. YouTube already shows users the popular videos and recommended videos based on that users search history. Users of this website know that there are videos involving gaming, movies, and other things of that nature. The categorization of all of these types of videos adds clutter to the screen. It is unnecessary to have these categorizations if YouTube is already displaying videos that would be in these categorizations. The popular and recommended videos sections could be kept, but while keeping those; removing some of the other categorization of video topics would be useful in order to keep clutter to a minimum. Users can search for the type of video they want, therefore so much categorization of video topics is unnecessary and removing them can improve the overall design of the webpage.
