5-Daniel Hill

Looking at my YouTube design, it is pretty obvious to me what feature is the most unnecessary. It would be no problem to remove the numbers showing how many likes and dislikes a comment has. Instead, it could just show the total number of likes minus dislikes like YouTube does now. I only did this to make it more obvious to the users how that total number specifically came to be, but in hindsight, it is completely unneeded and actually kind of clutters up the page a little bit more. I could have done a simple Unnecessary Test, and I would have been able to get rid of this feature right away. I don't think it's too big of a deal that it is still there, but it probably would be better to remove it.

As for how this relates to playing the whole game, when a design is fully completed, there are going to be loads of completely necessary features. It is easy for designers to get really focused on one small, specific part of that overall design. When this happens, one part of the design might get bloated with nice-to-have features, and then another part, and another, etc. It could eventually add up to having a design riddled with unnecessary features. Therefore, it is important to stick to using only necessary applications and features in a design at any given point in time.
